    Eco and Dynamic are obvious.

I have a manual gearbox and ordinary suspension so I'm not sure what it can do to make things more comfortable.

    Any ideas?

I believe the throttle map would be somewhere between Eco and Dynamic along with lighter steering.

Think it also increases the amount of assistance for the steering

Good question as I've never felt a difference using comfort mode - so don't.

Also it "dumbs down" the air con to work more efficiently or less efficiently depending on your point of view.

Wouldn't that be in Eco mode and not Comfort?

Yeah comfort just "softens stuff" so less aggressive throttle response (but not 'soggy' like Eco), lighter steering (more assistance) and in an air suspension vehicle it will not drop suspension past setting 2 at higher speeds (on motorways). Actually pretty pointless from my experience cos the only place I'd use it is on the motorway to get a slightly more supple ride but it adds a couple of MPG to the consumption cos the aerodynamics suffer.

It's a funny one - it's a pretty cool feature to have on any car, and is still quite interesting on a standard A6, however I find it only comes into its own when it's paired with an auto box and adjustable suspension or particularly air suspension in the case of the the A6.

I had it on a Golf R MK6 with DSG, where it was paired with the mag suspension. Thought it was brilliant and loved the difference when you put it in comfort or dynamic.

Have a similar type of thing now on my e92 M3, but without what BMW call EDC (mag dampers). In this case there's a 'power' button that you can press - just sharpens the throttle response. And then you can set up your M-mode to include firm steering, throttle response, DCT shift speed, traction control.

    My take on it is:
    - I really don't like the throttle response being sharpened. Makes it like an on-off switch. You still don't get more than 100% throttle, you just get it earlier, so why not have more control over your throttle input.
    - Weighting up of the steering is great, really alters the feel. Particularly good on the e92 with hydraulic steering.
    - auto gear change being sharpened / smoothed out is a good thing, again, changes the feel.
    - suspension is the big one for me. I don't really miss it too much on the M, as wouldn't want it any firmer, but a comfort setting would be good at times. Would be a big plus on the A6 if you could afford the option.
    - traction control setting is good on the M, but don't think it'd be necessary on the A6

So I think that a Manual, non air suspension A6 is missing out on some of the primary benefits of Drive Select, and I wish you could disable any changes to the throttle response - that's just my thoughts on it!
