Hi, I have a 2008 A6 2.0 TDI which has a MMI 2G High colour with Sat Nav and 6 Disc changer. I absolutely love driving the car but I do have a few issues, if any of you lovely people could help. Firstly I have a annoying rattle which sounds like it is coming from the passenger rear side and kind of sounds like a parcel shelf rattling, I have checked that the Amp is secure in the boot but cannot seem to find anything lose around that area and cannot recreate the noise???? please help (it's a pet hate) secondly which I fear may be the more concerning problem (but the only other I have) is the Drivers interface behind the steering wheel it shows the radio station and directions when using the sat Nav etc. it seems to not like early mornings but seems fine after 10 minutes of driving during this time it will come on dull and the go blank again, id say at a guess it was to do with cold damp mornings which is messing the connection points until they dry out etc. One more thing (sorry) I also cannot access the Hidden Menu (press and hold Car + Setup) can anyone advise on this please. Thanks Steve

The hidden menu has to setup using VCDS.

Thanks Dan, I assume this has to be done with the Ross-Tech cable and software or is there a cheaper way of unlocking the menu? Thanks

This has to be done with a genuine cable look at the VCDS section for the Users map there should be someone close by who can help you.

Non genuine cables are not approved by this website and post's about using them or asking for ways around them are normally removed.

Best thing to do on the rattle is to get someone to drive and you sit in the back seat, I had a rattle on one of the rear blinds that's how I found it in the end. The instrument cluster going blank is a known issue have a search on here or try google, also use C6 in the search line otherwise you will get a lot of post on the older C5 A6 which also has know instrument cluster problems.

Thanks B5NUT ill do that about the rattle, im pretty sure its in the cabin/boot opposed to a rear spring etc. Someone has mentioned possibly not enough power goes to driver display upon cold starts but i still think its probably a connection issue due to cold or damp. Is it worth unlocking the hidden menu? I do eventually want to add an aux or another connection as i dont seem to have bluetooth or any other connection apart from 6 cd changer

Thanks boidy, unfortunately i have already tried that, took it out and put back in and made sure there wasnt any movement. It seems to only happen on small bumps rumbling roads rather than big speed bumps etc.

    Hi, welcome to the forum.

I have a car the exact same year/ model as yours and the DIS behaved exactly the same as yours when I first got it. There is good and bad news. Ultimately it will fail, mine did in a puff of smoke at 70mph with no warning but it took a year to do so. The good news is that the repair can be very very cheap as the failing part is a small electronic component on the back of the screen. On the other hand, since mine was in warranty at the time I had a garage replace it, which is the Audi way, the total bill for the warranty company was £1000 for a new dash insert and labour. If you can get someone to remove the dash insert and you can do without the car long enough for it to be sent away then it can be repaired, otherwise you're looking at a quite big investment. The upside is that with a new dash insert you get the facelift higher res version and can unlock features that you can't get with the pre-facelift models (needle sweep etc).

I'll try and post the link to the repairers if I can find it... I see there are a number of people who offer the part of a repair services on the Bay of E

    good luck.
