Guys, I’ve come up with a solution which I will be prototyping next week (fingers crossed) in response to the really irritating always on fog light with FK Automotive/DEPO aftermarket Led taillights. I’ve simulated my concept electronics in pspice and the solution works very well. Ive not 100% settled on the method for packaging it up yet, but likely integral to a small harness. This won’t prevent me from proving the concept.

Id appreciate some help testing this, so if a couple of you fancy getting involved please let me know in this thread.
I’m very busy with work just now but should get around to ordering the components this weekend.

The only outstanding issue I have just now is the freq of the PWM. I will use a LabVIEW app I created sometime agi with my DAQ to measure the pulsed freq. This isn’t a problem to do, but if anyone know this frequency of hand please let me know as it will save me a job!

Anyway, ill keep you updated in this thread regards progress.

First prototype worked! Then died. Lol. My own stupid fault. For some reason had it in my head it was a 5W bulb not the 21w it really is! Almost fried my FET, certainly took it to an inch of it's life. Concept worked tho. New FET selected which will do exactly what I need. Only outstanding issue is disconnecting the load resistor I'm going to include to prevent bulb out warning when fogs are off. Then package it up!

OK here's a vid of the 2nd prototype in action. I'm just waiting on my load resistor to arrive then they will be added in. I'm using a relay to switch them in to ensure I always get bulb blown alarm when the fog really does blow but also to prevent the alarm coming on when fogs are off. Looks a bit messy but it's only because I had to extend the cables to allow the boot to shut for the demo. The finished product will be compact and part of a new intermediate harness, very much plug and play.

Not really sure anyone is interested in this but here's the video I just too anyway. Right fog still working the old depo fk automotive way left working the audi way!
