    Hello.

I am struggling with the air blower on my Touran. It only works on 4 which is a complete pain.

Any clues on repairing this. I read in a Passatt thread about a resistor pack needing swapped out. Does the same apply for the Touran?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea where I locate the resistor pack so I can swap it out?

I think he means where is it located on the vehicle.

On the Passat & Golf it's on the heater duct below the glovebox, under the dash. There is a little flexible trim you need to take off that's secured with a couple of thumb screws. The Touran is probably the same. There is a little locking tab on the resistor. You lift the tab & slide the resistor sideways and it will lift out of the duct.

    Jim.

Thanks for the replies. I bought a 240c thermal fuse from maplin, snipped out the old fuse and soldered in the new fuse.

    It works!

Word to the wise, the salesman at maplins reckoned soldering was a no-no as the heat of the soldering iron could blow the fus.

I wrapped the fuse wires around the legs of the resistor pack then used needle nose pliers to hold the fuse wire. I then put a blob of soldet on the tip of the iron and quickly transferred it to the fuse wires. This limited the heat transfer to the fuse and it worked fine.

Hey all, well, still having problems.

My blower would work for a couple of weeks then then the resistor would blow, I swapped it out several times for a new resistor (not the whole pack, just the thermal resistor), it blew last week and won't work at all, even without the resistor pack it no longer works on position four.

I am guessing that the blower unit has gone, it was making screeching noises when on four, like a bearing was wearing out or something.

    Any ideas?

Yep, new blower motor and controller are needed... motor will be drawing too much current.

Yes, and it may have blown the main supply fuse now too. That's a 40A at the center of the bottom row of fuses on the dash fusebox.
