Coolant leak....

I was hoping someone may be able to help me,I have had a small leak for a while now but come to a head last week when I am loosing most of the water within a few mile.I think the coolant is coming from a plastic looking unit under the right hand side of the engine at the bottom .I have attached a pic hopefully to show the unit,Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be the water pump. How old is your car and whats the current mileage?

Satty its a 2008 and has 80000 on clock,taking it to garage tomorrow I have been told it may be the thermostat housing maybe but will not knoe until tomorrow.The leak seems to be coming from a plastic unit under a galv pipe under the coolant flange area.(the galv or metal pipe is dry so leak below there)
thanks for the advice I think its not something I can do myself but I have heard the water pump are awkward to fit so hopefully not that :-)

Hi Geordie1 My 2008 1.8t had a new water pump around 80k. I thought it was a pipe too, don't be too surprised if it is the pump they do tend to go around the 75k mark.

ah I will expect the worse,if you dont mind me asking how much did cost for the new pump

Geordie, is yours not due for a cambelt change anyway. Water pump is recommended at that stage.

Cheers you were right it was the water pump and I asked about my belt but it is a chain so didnt need changing..£290 down but my baby back..
