Ticking noise on my a6

Hi there. I've spoken to my indi about this and he said its normal and sounds no different to any other 3.0tdi he has heard or dealt with but I can't believe this as I've never heard this on other audi 3.0tdi. (There are at least 3 q7's which drop off at school and I've never heard them do it.

Basically it sounds like a constant tick, tick, tick which seems to speed up with the engine.

I've only noticed this in the last few days as I have had the window down. If the window is closed I can't here it at all

Any ideas. My indi days it's not the chain. Which I guess would be a rattle not a tick

Is it loud enough to take a video and record the sound. Could be anything.

Check the condition of the aux belt and also the check the free wheeling pulley on the alternator.

Have you got a stone in a tyre tread? That would make a ticking noise that increases with speed and is more noticeable if the window's open.
