    Hi Guys,

    I'm new to the forum!

A while ago I purchased a new stereo (an RCD510) installed it fine but had been getting the famous 'Battery Drain' issue caused by my old can bus gateway (1K0 907 530 H) as I had an old RCD300 previously.

Today I installed a new can bus gateway (7N0 907 530 AN) that I got from eBay after following this guide. I've got a VCDS cable and I made sure to take screenshots of every setting from the old can bus in the installation list on the VCDS software before I installed the new can bus after following this guide.

So I coded the new can bus gateway with the same codes as the old one in the installation list so everything should be fine but I'm getting these errors now:

    • Rear light reverse light not working
    • Rear left fog light not working

I cleared the codes on VCDS but they keep coming back when I start the car which is weird, I don't know if there is a setting I haven't enabled on the new can bus or something?

One thing I did notice was that the new can bus gateway 'long coding' is really short compared to the old one which make me think something isn't setup right on the new can bus.

The old can bus long code: 3D3F074007001003
The new can bus long code: 350000

I'm a bit worried I've got a non-compatible can bus? or a cheap Chinese clone?

Does anyone know what I should do?

Thanks a million for any help.

Just a guess, but it looks like the coding is for a LHD car. RHD cars don't have a left rear fog lamp. I would have thought that the coding for the lights would be in central electrics (J519) rather than in gateway though.

    Hi Jim,

I really appreciate the help, I'll have a look in the coding for the central electrics and see what I can see.

Are you saying that something might be enabled on VCDS that shouldn't be? Its weird as all I changed was the can bus, I didn't add any extra coding, I just put the old coding back onto the new can bus... I also tried setting the long code on the can bus to the old can bus long code but that showed an error and wouldn't apply the changes.

I already cleared all the faults and the warning keeps coming back so it must be a setting or a physical fault..?

    Thanks again

Hi Jim, it looks like you were right.. Just solved the issue read a lots of comments then came across this on my-gti.com :

Hi – Just a note for people with Right Hand Drive cars – you will need to go into long coding of the CAN Gateway Module after setting up the Installation List. Bit 9 will need to be set for RHD, also check the car is setup for the right number of doors and check one of the other bits (i think bit 8) to ensure its set to Volkswagen and not Audi etc.

Most new modules default to LHD. If you have a RHD car and don’t set the above then you will have faults on your rear fogs and reverse lights.
So I set the can bus up like this and cleared the errors and its sorted!

I just hope my battery is not draining and this really does solve the issue....

    Thanks!

I'm glad you got is sorted...the clue was in the trouble code.
It's difficult to keep track of how all the control units interact. I wish they would just go back to a switch powering a lamp via a fuse rather than all this electronic guff.

    Jim.
