    Hi

    I have recently purchased an audi A4 1.9tdi 90 Bhp 2000

The Rev Counter and speedometer started to flicker on and off last week when i initially started the car, after a while they wud stop and work normal.
Then one day everything in the dash board froze, i removed the fuse for the instrument cluster and it started to work again.

The next time i turned the car on the dashboard(Fuel milage display speedometer etcc) started flashing on and off lights included and also the radio light and all the red lights in the car started flashing. and also it resets everything, the date time etc.

After a while when the car is heated up everything starts to work normal.

Has anyone any idea whats wrong?

Also before this happened my fuel gauge would be over a quarter full and the warning light and beep would come on,

    Any ideas here?

Yer help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

sounds to me that either your dashboard is not being powered up properly (maybe a loose connection) or something is sparking.

but am no expert. all i know is my dashboard lights need changing x3. but im not too sure i knw how to take the dashboard apart. (not yet anyway)

I would say instrument voltage regulator or bad connection. But i couldn't be more specific.

    Thanks for the replies.

In answer to your question abbey, no it doesnt work if i turn the car off and then on, it keeps ging on and off until the car is warmed up,

I have been told that the whole instrument cluster may need to be replaced?
do ye think this has to be done or do ye think it isnt as big a problem?

If i got vag-com would this tell me what is wrong or will i have to go to an audi dealer to find out the exact problem?

Recently when im driving the clock and date reset to the 1/9/98 and 00:00 and the electronic immobiliser light comes on.

    Any ideas

    Thanks
    Mike
