    Hi all

I was just checking prices for tyres and couldn't remember the size so I looked at the last invoice for the VAG specialist who replaced them in May.
At the same time, I ended up on Black Circles who have the search by reg when I noticed the muppets at the specialist have put on 225/35/19 instead of 255/35/19.

Is this an issue? I don't know much about tyre widths and certainly apart from the look from the front which looks more inner rim rather than outer rim, there does not seem to be any difference in drive etc.

Obviously one of you guys may come back and say this is now a dangerous car to drive ...do let me know

Dunno about dangerous but your insurance company would have a great get out in the event of an accident! ''Sorry sir, you have the wrong tyre size fitted so your cover is void''
Probably going to affect your speedo reading too. The wrong tyres are 3.3% smaller in diameter than the OEM size; a maximum difference of 2.5% is recommended.
If it were me I'd definitely be returning them to OEM size.

    Cheers Neil,
I thought as much - def seeing wear accordingly as I guess they're stretched more than they should.

I'm going to drop the specialist an email - I actually cut all ties with them a few months back after a number of issues with them and despite their "apology" I did not bother replying as I wanted nothing further with them.
Hind-sight, I should have checked their work but didn't think anything of it until now.

I'll see what they say and if I get nothing out of it given that it cost me almost £400 then and will cost me another £400 rectifying that + another 400 for the rear, I'm not going to let it drop easily.

Top it off, they're a sponsor on here which is how I ended up using them for a lot of the work in the past.

So not the one in Harrow itself as I've not had a chance to use them yet but a couple of miles from there

The only difference is the width of the tyre.
This will have no effect on the speedo.
The steering may feel slightly lighter and the grip level maybe perceived as being less.
As for 225 width tyres they are fitted to the 17' alloys as standard.

This is completely wrong. The 35 figure in the numbers is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width (35% of 225 or 255). The difference is about 20mm less (circumference) so equates to 3% difference in speed reading. Also, you should check what the maximum width of wheel the 225 can be fitted to as it may be 8.5" and the 19" wheels are probably 9". You do see boy racers with stretched tyres but not something you should do without knowing the problems. As the guys have said, insurance would be my biggest concern. All the best getting it sorted.

Try dropping a PM to Eshrules as I recall on a few occasions he's mediated corrections of work between members and sponsors.
