    Hi all,

Got up this morning and put bag in the boot, closed the lid and went to get brekkie/lunch from sainsburies. In that time, it seems the boot no longer wants to open.
Tried the button on the remote, the switch in the door and the handle itself - no noise, nothing at all.

Opening via key in the slot pops it open - trying the above again and it's the same, you can def not hear anything from the motor.

I have now scanned it and I am getting the following:

    1 Fault Found:
    01699 - Motor for Central Locking; Hatch/Trunk (V53)
009 - Open or Short to Ground

Is the motor really shot? How much could this cost to replace and I assume the extended warranty should sort this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Akash

If I remember a boot catch is about £50. There is a modified lock. Mine would not stay closed.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers Dave
Is that the same as the motor? I thought the catch was literally just the long metal bit that held it shut?

Also one bit of info I left out was that it is an auto-open boot though I think thats down to the struts rather than the motor

    Hi.

The motor and catch come all in one. Dead easy to change, about 1/2 h. But make sure it's the latest one.

Is it keyless ignition? If so same as mine but mine don't open all the way just opens the lock so you can push the boot lid up. Also you can't lock your keys in the boot.

Brill thanks again, I'll dig out the part number and check out what I have now compared to what is available.
It's not keyless - believe me on this, had to ring the spare key holder to do a 100 mile round trip to bring it over when I put the keys in my gym bag and the bag in the boot

Also need to check labour (only thing you pay under extended warranty) vs the £50+ on the part and doing it myself if I go via Audi

    Thanks all

Believe it or not, it's decided it's not worth going into Audi or being taken apart by myself and started working suddenly.
I went out at lunch to test and it was dead but after work some 4 hours after lunch and without realising, I hit the boot button like I normally do to put my bag away...the lid flips up.
Got home, did it again to get bag out and it's still fine.

The only question I have now is what the...?

OK that was very short lived - got up this morning and it's dead again

I've booked it into Audi to let them sort it under warranty. Hopefully it's just going to be the diagnostic and nothing more I have to pay. NEeded to take it in anyway for the antenna issue + the croaky engine sound I've been experiencing for almost 4 years that they can never replicate!

Quick update, car is with Audi and had a very strange update that the Earth cable is missing?
No idea how that has happened - it's been fine until when I listed the thread on here.

I have a feeling they're relating it to the aftermarket DAB fitting which has also stopped transmitting the signal for DAB suddenly but again, this was months before the issue with the boot.

I have gone ahead with the £60 diagnostic charge to get it seen to and if it is the motor, I will get it done under warranty otherwise it will be parts + labour charge

Quick update: Audi have now found the issue and unfortunately/annoyingly it is NOT covered under extended warranty
The issue is not the motor but in actual fact the wiring to and from the motor. Apparently they've all split

It'll cost me ~£200 + the £60 diagnostic. I've gone ahead with it as I can't not have it working...while opening via remote was not an option many moons ago, it's become that necessity now and it's just a real inconvenience when the boot doesn't pop open let alone the whole way like mine did.

I guess my biggest issue is the durability of the part/s used and whether this is actually a build fault. To have wires split in such way after 6 years is shocking to me assuming that the whole architecture was built on the basis that the wires are channeled in such way that it should handle constant open/close stress.
It's almost like saying because your wheels turn, they could just fall off/break off

So to end, beware of your boot and it's wiring because it seems to have a temp life
