Specification check?

Hi,

My wife has decided she wants a mk4 Golf 1.6 SE. Her only stipulation is that it has to have aircon. The SE doesn't seem to have aircon until 2001 as standard. Is there any way of finding out what options a car had from new by inputting the registration number into a website? I know it's a long shot but i'm sure i saw somewhere that you could do this. The thing is she has seen a car for sale at an auction. We know the reg no but we are not sure what options it may have.

There is a site you can put the chassis number into but not the reg, that facility costs serious money.

Before 2001 the SE had sunroof or air con so they are about, i guess it is just finding them?
