Hi, lady stranger to forums, seeking feedback from other owners who may have similar experience please.

Weird metallic pinging noise in engine compartment this week, booked into vw to investigate today and I'm told I need a new radiator and a new engine (cylinder not holding pressure??). I'm furious as to how this could have happened after 4 years, I may as well have bought a second-hand car and taken my chances...

Oil pump failed just after warranty expired, 2 local vw garages provided servicing since new, one accused the other of using the wrong oil during servicing... Maybe red herring regarding the failure of the oil pump but has that also caused my engine to fail?

£7,000 bill... Vw 'goodwill' will pay parts but I'm still faced with £2k for labour. I've raised a case with VW head office but wondered if I'm just unlucky or if there were other cases out there?

any advice or views welcome, thank you, Alison

Sorry to hear of your engine woes. There have been reports of the 1.4 engines timing chains becoming slack due to the tensioners failing, this causes the chain to jump a tooth or two which causes the pistons to hit the valves and bend them. Bent broken valves will not work or seal the cylinders. Could be the problem look further down the forum pages to a post about the reliability of the 1.4 engine

    Welcome to the forum Alison.

As said the 1.4 TSI does suffer from timing chain problems which can be expensive out of warranty. See I you can contact VW customer services to see if you can get a diagnostic and reduction in cost?

As your a new user can I ask you to put your car spec I your signature?
