    Hi Folks,

I've had something strange happen tonight and don't recall it happening before.

If I have the engine running and the gear selector in either P or N and press the brake pedal, I can hear and feel a clunk in the centre console. I know what it is, it will be the solenoid preventing you selecting gears (R, N, D) unless you have your foot on the brake.

My question is, should you be able to hear / feel this through the gear selector?

Spoke to Audi briefly this evening and they say it's normal, which I get the operation would be, but to actually hear / feel it?

Anyone else have / had anything similar?

My issue / concern is I go abroad for a holiday in the car on Monday and don't want anything to go wrong over there...

    Cheers All,

    Steve.

I've noticed the same occasionally - mines an s-tronic. I think it's the logic between the parking brake, seatbelt, footbrake locking getting confused.

Don't think it is anything to worry about.

Not the same box, but I can hear and feel the clunk of this solenoid through the selector in my Range rover sport under the same circumstances.

Well, never heard that before but, on the first part of the pedal movement there is a noise like someone tapping a biro against the inside of the console. Can also just feel it on the gear change as well. Ho hum.

Thanks for checking folks. Whippy - sounds just like mine does, so can take comfort it's not going to suddenly break on me!

    Cheers,

My old C6 Tiptronic used to do this ... although I don't recall noticing it when the car was new I do recall noticing it later in it's life.

I've since sold the car but also have same symptom on a new FL avant. It's the safety mechanism to put it into reverse.
