[QUOTE=Chelseagirl63;913993] I have the option of having this replacement engine fitted or hand the car back to the dealer in Hull.

Yes, hand it back. Hard to do, but, there are plenty good ones out there.

Hand it back. Car may be a lemon, plus you have no history of the other engine.

Hand it back for a full refund.

The facelift version is much better, but more £

It's early days but the garage indicated they haven't had problems with the 2012 onward models.

Few things come to mind here....

1st - if the car garage is offering a full refund on the purchase price, take that and walk away cash in hand... (then even hire a car short term till you find a new one if needed.)

2nd - 2012 engine in a 2009 - Ok the engine and car has pretty much stayed the same, but you could be running into all sort of possible issues during the installation depending on ECU versions, wiring looms, modules etc all working together on a newer engine. If the right investigation is carried out in advance it may not be an issue, however this needs to be taken into account.

3rd - The above work could take some time to carry out, also you run the risk on the source engine..... how do you know its not from a flood damaged car, accident damage (most likely) ? or had a hard life?

If i was you I would be looking for cash in hand and walk away.

take the money & run do not get involved with the car at all i have run a few b8 audis and they all come with their problems current 2008 b8 a4 2.0 tdi 143 s-line 69k full dealer history had new dual mass clutch flywheel fitted at 42k now on it's way out again at 69k making all the usual noises when clutch pressed down & engaged gears........so is this acceptable for a modern audi diesel driven normal not scragged to death needing a 3'rd clutch at 6 yrs old and only 69k miles disgraceful in my opinion.
if your running a 2.0 petrol as well there worse than a diesel.....both are crap diesels are rubbish on mpg and petrols burn oil,tbh i am going to fit a new clutch in my "shiny" black s-line and get shut as i have no faith in modern audis at all, just paying for badge snobbery......if i was yourself paying £10k for a old 2008 audi which i guarantee will turn into a money pit please look at car brands like kia for peace of mind & value for money they give a massive 7 year warranty upto 100,000 miles absolutely fantastic
my neighbour has the new kia ceed diesel estate £20 per annum tax great mpg and like he said "not bothered what goes wrong as 7 yrs wallet free repairs" and to be honest the car is very well put together with loads more features than a 2008 audi....the guy loves the car now had it just over a year trouble free.
my next motor is looking to be a kia due to the above and i am defo leaving audi as that badge is now too unreliable and costly please do your research on re-calls and costly out of warranty repairs on your next car if you rely on garage costs to fix.....i am ok as i will fit my own clutch but to me this should not be happening for the 3'rd time it's just a crap audi dmf along with other costly issues get your money back and ruuuuuun a mile !
