    Hi,

Looking to swap my 5 speed gearbox (A4 Cab 2.4 BDV) for a 6 speed.

Have correct gearbox (GBX) and gear stick/linkage - came from a 2004 Cab engine is already installed in my car!
Cross support is the same for both models so can use mine
I have the gearbox support - was on the 6 speed one.
Starter is the same for both.
    Clutch slave is the same
DMF and Clutch appear to be the same.

Would I need to replace the gearbox support frame - part numbers are different but any photos I look at appear to be the same?
Do I need to get a new pipe from the clutch master cylinder to the slave cylinder?

    Am I missing anything else?

    Thanks,

    W.

So you have replaced the ENQ/EBL 012 transmission for a GDX 01X series, not a GBX....

You should use the 8E0 399 105 HR rear support.

The big problem you are going to run into is you will need the cats from a six speed

    Thanks Crasher,

So my gearbox support should work (I believe the gearbox I got still has the rear support attached!)?

Would you know what the difference is between the 5 speed and 6 speed cats? I assume it is an exterior design difference to fit the cat around the box since the engine is the same.

    Much appreciated,

    W.

Yes it is the exact correct box code for that car with that engine when six speed. Yes it is the shape of the cats as the 01X box is wider. You may have to alter the ECU soft coding for 6 speed, not sure.

    Hi All,

Just to say conversion is now complete - have a 6 speed gearbox in my 2.4 cab and it is sweeeet - far superior drive than the 5 speed, 1st to 2nd does not experience the same loss of power I had before and in 6th at 120kmh car is so much quieter - I don't feel that I need to "change gear" . In the end the only part that was needed was the clutch pipe - (the used 6 speed came with the mount still attached and the clutch slave cylinder). Did get an Aluminium 6 speed gear knob to replace my one on ebay - cost €50.

I got the gearbox, and lever system and the drive shafts with the engine so if you want to do it you need to get these. To get the cats to fit only the mounts needed to be re-welded not too big job.

Anyway, thanks Crasher for the info,

    W.
