If I wanted a faster A6 there are 'standard' options such as an S6 or RS6.

Have a test drive next week in an RS6, not in the market for this but invited to 'Audi Sport Showcase' by my supplying dealer.

Really wanted to test an S6 as I might consider one once the mid term refresh is out, but the S6 not available to drive.
As FYI really, if you wanted to know what's different under the bonnet on those two beasts... Same starting point BUT...

It may be on paper half a second behind the RS6, but in reality I think this difference will be somewhat greater. I'm.currently testing an RS6 for a couple of days although my order has been in for some weeks, and it certainly feels a heck of a lot quicker 0-60 than my previous "sports" car the Ferrari F430. I've read that some places have tested the standard RS6 as mid to low 3's for the standing start sprint.

However its the in gear run from say 30-70 where the RS shines, as the higher red line before shifting means it can hold its peak torque for longer in each gear.

A company called Zenec have been exhibiting at the Geneva Motor Show for at least a couple of years. This year they showed a replacement MMI display (for most VAG vehicles) that has an interface with ABT remaps. Looked quite interesting and gave them more credibility than my previous impressions of them as just another HU supplier/retrofitter.

I can't afford an RS 6 at the moment that the point blank truth. No point in me test driving it as I don't have £90 k it costs
at the moment or £300 a week for the fuel .

It's not just about these numbers. It's about the characteristics of the car / performance.

While my car can generate a lot of lateral G there is no way it could be described as agile. Now, I'm not expecting an S6 to rival a Lotus Elise in the agility stakes but a more responsive drive would be an improvement. This aspect of my car was brought home to me recently when I drove a base model Insignia for a few days; dreadful car but turn in and change of direction was so much better then my A6.

Diesel operates over a such limited rev range compared to a petrol, IMO a petrol with over delivery over a wide rev range is more fun. Also interested to see if the S6 offers a more instant throttle response.

Interested to compare the biturbo torque convertor 'box which, while quite responsive, isn't as quick as the same box was in my prevision, BMW 535D, with the double clutch S6 'box.

While I really like my A6 I'm interested to see if the S6 can up the 'fun factor' a bit.

Look at this thread in relation lag issues
    BITDI Tuning

55kg heavier than equivalent non Allroad in case of BiTurbo. Not much really.

S6 has different suspension plus torque vectoring; wondered if this makes much difference to ride / handling. Suspect S6 engine and gearbox will be different in character from the A6 BiTurbo.

Have you done a run in yours to get an actual time?

Has anyone on here actually had their A6 on a rolling road/dyno? I think you would be pleasantly surprised. Since the lemon law was introduced manufacturers have been under quoting power figures.

I had a 2 litre Mondeo that had an official output of 138bhp, but was actually putting out 165 bhp on one local dyno and 167 bhp on another. Other than being extremely well maintained and over serviced it was completely standard. I see some tuning companies quoting official figures and not the output from their test car(s) so it’s hard to judge the actual increase. Superchips and a few others do give the test car original power/torque and it's almost always over the manufacturer’s stats.

I would like to run the A6, but from what I read it’s not possible to get full power from the Audi auto boxes due to the software and the way it changes up before full power even in manual mode. Can anyone confirm this?

BTW, where are the pics jamie? I surprised Chris hasn’t asked you already

Lets compare apples with apples. Audi quote 0-62 mph times (RS6 is 3.9). 0-60 times will be significantly lower - around 3.4 to 3.6, depending on engine and gearbox. This is true forany car. That Evo video was quoting 0-60 of 3.66 (IIRC) so that is exactly in line with Audi's quoted 0-62 time.

You'll get nowhere near an accurate time for 0-60 with a stopwatch.
