V light pressure will prevent the engine stopping, once the engine has stopped it can be restarted by backing off the brake pedal until the engine starts but keeping enough pressure on the pedal to prevent the car moving. Sounds clumsy but soon get used to it. Useful when, e.g. waiting to join traffic at a roundabout. See the gap coming and get the engine going so ready to move off.

Stop Start interaction with auto handbrake goes like this. Engage auto handbrake and the stop start function. Come to a stop in a queue of traffic and the engine stops. So far so good. Decide it's going to be a longish stop so take foot off brake pedal, engine starts and auto handbrake keeps the car still. Now stationary in a queue with engine running and stop start engaged.

Previous car, BMW F11 (current 5 series), coped with this scenario perfectly, it started the engine when I needed to move, i.e. when I touched the accelerator.
That explains it and is as described in the handbook. I am guessing that Audi thinks the small amount of time saved by starting the engine on releasing the brake is better (safer?) than waiting for the accelerator to be pressed. They may also be concerned about the accelerator being the control with the unintended acceleration debacle in the US a few years back. If you want to keep the engine stopped then you have to put the car in Park (not too much of an issue at traffic lights I am guessing). As I said earlier I think auto gearboxes and stop/start present a particular design challenge

On my BMW if you wanted to stop the 'start stop' stopping the engine extra pressure for a moment or two on the brake pedal once the car had almost stopped would do it.

If you wanted to start the engine in the BMW when the start stop system has stopped it a small attempt to turn the steering wheel (engine stopped, no power steering, no steering movement - just pressure on the wheel) would get it going again.

My rear wiper often also judders on the first wipe, think it is just a build up of traffic film between uses. Was the same on my C6 Avant
Are front brake disk warping problems likely if the hill assist is always used? I've always understood that you shouldn't keep your foot on the brake (particularly after heavy braking) because the area under the pad will cool at a different rate to the rest of the disk and hence warp.

I wondered about this too as I use it all the time. It remembers the setting (not for occasional use only) and even heavier pressure is required for start stop to kick in so I just went into denial mode and will blame the manufacturer if they warp… and get them changed under Audi Complete hopefully.
