    Hi,

Driving home from work and a flashing glow plug light came on and engine fault message. Later the orange engine light came on.

AA have ben out and they say its a EGR fault.

Anyone any idea how much his will cost at a main dealer and if I need a new one?

Or is it something a regular garage can repair easily and much cheaper?

    The car is a 2009 2.0 CR DPF 140.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Chris

Could the faulty cooler have been caused by the loose engine mounts that VW didn't tighten up when they changed my cambelt?

Dunno about your EGR cooler being vibrated to cause fault. But engine mount bolts should be changed for new as they're stretch (one time use only) bolts. Was this when you had your cambelt/waterpump changed? Was this a dealer service dept? Many places just put the old ones back in. There's been reports of deformed engine mounts found too. Can't say for sure about yours as this has occured on the petrol engines

See the above for where it is, I'm not au fait with the B6 belt change procedure so I cannot comment, however all parts and labour carried out by VW is guaranteed for 2 years.

You'd have to prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the incorrectly replaced engine mount was the cause of the failure of your EGR cooler. It might be wise to pay for an independent engineer's report.

Have asked them to go ahead with repair as I need car. I have asked for the old part back so I can have a look. Not sure it will reveal anything!

VW agreed it was their fault on the bolts.

All completed and back to normal. They said it was a fuelng issue and that the valve was stuck. They seem to think it was using supermarket fuel that caused the problem!!
