I've done a search to try and get information on my problem but haven't found anything really similar. On part throttle my TDi 130 Passat hesitates/jerks back and forth round 1800 to 2000 rpm. It doesn't do it all the time and only does it on part throttle. It also does it no matter what gear I'm in. I was thinking it could be the MAP sensor being dirty or needing replacement. I have just had the turbo pipes done because the o-rings had gone in them causing some oil leakage.

Should I try cleaning the MAP sensor? Should I disconnect it to see if the problem stops as recommended for similar issues? Has anybody had this exact problem before?

I've done 20K miles since I bought the car and it has done it since I bought it 2nd hand with 58K on the odo. It's a 2001 TDi sport.

    Thanks in advance.

The MAP sensor won't cause that and cleaning them is a waste of time and that applies to the MAF as well which is what I think you are referring to and cleaning a working MAF usually converts it into a non working version. Have you had a fault code read done? Has the car been chipped/mapped/tuning boxed?

Car is completely standard. What's the difference between the MAP and MAF?

Car has been serviced twice since I bought it (including timeing belt) and dealer hasn't told me of any fault codes present. They only advised me after the last service to replace the turbo pipes, so I don't think there were any.

The MAF is Mass Air Flow or sometimes referred to as the AFM for Air Flow Meter or AMM for Air Mass Meter but these all the same thing and any of the above acronyms is fine. The MAF measures the mass of air taken in by the engine and they are chronically unreliable but rarely give a fault code. The MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure and is the pressure sensor mounted in the pressure pipe at the back of the engine bay and it measures turbo boost pressure. These are quite common for failing but leave an over boost fault code when they do that implies a problem elsewhere.

my lack of power was also accompanies by slight jerking.
I cleaned the MAF with contact cleaner and also decoked the exhaust gas recirculation valve. Those two together made the car run smoothly and regained the lost power
I could not see that the MAF was dirty so may have been simply the EGR.
