Hi all, I have a 2004 4.2 Quattro with what seems to be a serious issue. The parking brake would not release on the right rear wheel so called out AA who said it was a siezed caliper but wound it back so that I could move the car. Today I took it to a local garage who used vcds to try and sort it out but also said the caliper has not seized,

it is coming up with a couple of faults: 01487 System Function Test Fail, 02433 Right Rear brake motor open circuit and also the EPB control keeps dropping out with no comms.

I have said about the wire having a problem fraying on this years model where it connects to the caliper which they checked and said it was okay.

Any suggestions as to what to try or it could possibly be?

    Cheers for now

Cone, have you googled this issue...it really is the font of most knowledge?

VWVortex.com - Parking Brake (EPB) Fault

    Welcome to he forum btw!

As it's your first post it may be worth explaining:

    How many miles?
    Auto or manual?
How long you've owned it, could have been yesterday you bought it?
    Any brake work done
MOT recently (when the epb is used most)
Do you regularly use your EPB (I maybe have a dozen times in 2yrs of ownership)
Did it happen when you were trying to release the EPB, or did it happen involuntarily?
How the fault manifests itself? (was/is the brake light lit on the dash?)
How old is the battery (epb is one of the most sensitive to a poor battery)?

I see dozens of first posts from people that could be 'captains of industry' that simply can't explain themselves and it sometimes reminds me of the old joke:

Patient - Dr I get this stabbing pain in my eye when I drink tea!
Dr - Have you removed the teaspoon from the cup before you drink?

Thanks for reply. Just to clarify, 2004/04 A6 C6 with 101000 miles on it, I use EPB everyday with no previous problems, it has a Autobox and is in Park everytime, it is parked at night on a slight incline but nothing major, I have owned it since January this year and done 2500 miles since then, the MOT was done in January with no advisories and no work done on the brakes in the time I have owned it. It came up with the warning when trying to get the it to auto release when pulling away. Battery is good but not sure how old. Only warning lights on dash were as it happened with nothing prior.

I have just had report from garage saying that the OS brake has 2v at motor and the NS nothing. With this in mind as the NS one is working and the OS not it looks like the motor is getting the power all the time hence not releasing like the NS. So could this be harness, handbrake switch or the dreaded EPB Command Module.
