    I have a 2005 Touran 1.9TDI

I have just noticed the 2 cooling fans start to run about 5 to 10 seconds after the car has been started from cold. The ambient temp is 22 C., the engine has only been running for 60 seconds max, there in coolant in the expansion tank; indeed all appears normal except the fans start running a few seconds after start up.

Is this normal or do I need a new temp sensor? If so where is the one needing changed?

    Any help would be appreciated

I have an idea that you can try and check.

On my wifes 2005 touran there's an automatic ac, meaning that it's always on unless you turn it off.
I know that with most cars, if not all, the fans goes on the moment you switch on the ac to ensure you get airflow over the condenser so that the cooling system can work.

If you have the automatic aircon then there should be an ''econ'' button that will switch off the ac.

Turn the ignition on and also the ''econ'' button, thus making sure your ac is not running, or if you have an ac button make sure it's off and then start the car. If you car is running and the ac is off the fans shouldn't come on.
