From doing a quick google it seems the hex design is still there but totally re-designed.

That was the first page I seen on the results so do your own research as someone might say different.

According to my searches on the net, I found that car produced from 2010 are safe. I found few posts where they have complained even on 2009 models with CR engines (it was A4 with 2.0 TDI). I am looking for some good A6, but unfortunately, I cannot afford A6 from 2010.

I spoke to someone today and was told that all 2.0tdi affected. Bloke said he installed upgraded pump to 61 plate 2.0tdi. I also spoke to VW Audi specialist in London and they said they had 2010 car with engine failure due to pump failure.

Probably to do with crappy longlife service intervals just like everything else.

I think also that longlife service intervals are reason of many failures. This longlife shorts engine's life for sure!

It is obviously that as time pass there will be more and more failures with newer cars (2010,2011) regarding oil pump. I know that as soon as I buy A6 2.0 TDI I will put some money on part to check / replace oil pump.

I spoke to VW/ Audi specialist and was told that best mod is to put old style 1.9tdi PD oil pump which should last forever.

I wonder is it the oil pick up filter that gets clogged and in turn makes the oil pump seize etc.
I replaced a pick up filter in a 06 A4 last year.A lot of carbon particles in the bottom of the sump.
Noticed when I was changing the oil in my A6 that there was some carbon particles at the bottom of the waste oil bucket. Wonder is this the reason oil pumps are failing ??

Pumps are failing cause the connecting shaft fails.
