Hi guys, the wife noticed that there is a whirring noise coming from the fan when the air con is running.

I've tried it myself and its definitely there, however it's pointing me to the blower rather than the climate control. I'm assuming this, because it is there without the engine running, therefore the compressor wouldn't be on. I checked the pollen filters and they don't look too bad.

I've also opened the bonnet and noticed that the noise seems to be coming from the fan under the rubber skirt by the wiper blades.

Is this the heater blower box? And is it easily replaced serviced? And if it needs replacing, is it expensive!? I'm quite happy to live with it as its just a little noisier but was concerned of other damage.

    Thanks

Sounds like the same issue I had a few months back (I have got a thread somewhere on here)
In my case, it did eventually seize to work on demand and would take sometimes up to 30 mins before it turned on. Same-ish noise in your case and same location and sure enough, it was the blower motor.

Audi had quoted just under £300 for parts but was done under extended warranty.
From what I know, the wipers have to come off from the bottom to access the blower motor but apparently it is not that difficult to replace the motor.

I would do a scan too - I had an error relating to the blower motor too

Totally doable as a DIY job as have had to change one on another car in the same location.

You just need a wiper puller (less than £5 of ebay) and remember to mark where your wipers sit currently (with some tape) before taking them off

It may be worthwhile looking to see if there's one compatible for your car on ebay like this one:

    #15548 Audi A4 B7 2.0TDI Avant 2007 Heater Blower Fan Motor | eBay

But as you've not said your model or year (and I can't be bothered to go through your previous posts to locate this) it's a little needle in haystack to know if it's the right one for you.

Try putting your cars details in your signature (as I've done) to save people some time and offer the correct advice

I had this issue and it was leaves in the blower case. Audi cleaned them out and has been ever since.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll add a signature today.

My car is a 2008 2.0 TDI TDV LE Avant(I think!)

I guess youd have to go through the same steps to remove leaves as you would changing it.
