Golf Mk 4 100 pd tdi missing/running on 3

My Golf started missing now and again when warm, then started running on 3 cylinders. Stopped engine started it up again it cleared but then started running on 3 again. Any ideas anyone???????

Possibly a bad injector, or fault in the electrical system to that particular injector. Get it plugged into vagcom and see what DTCs it is showing If you dont have a vagcom interface, PM me your location and i'll see if i can put you in touch with someone who can do it for you for little or no cost.Pete

I bit the bullit sorry cheque book! and took it into a VW dealer at least they have come up with the same diagnosis, they want just under 400 to put in the wiring loom in then another 400 if its the injector. Does this sound silly money, they haven't got the bits yet?
