    Dear all,

I have a A6 2.4 quattro 2002 100k with a rough idle for months now. I have changed the spark plugs, HT leads, Coil Pack, Engine Flush, Injector Flush, Fuel Filter and yes you guessed it no joy! There are no codes at all.

Anyone got an idea what could be next? A garage said clean the throttle body. Will this work? I have looked and I cant get to it very well.

    Please give me some ideas!

A colleague was experiencing similar sypmtons with his 2.4. He tried a couple of dealers, who both couldn't diagnose the problem! I recommended my local garage....throttle body needed a good clean. I reckon it could be worth the effort in any event.

Defo check the throttle body. my 2.8 v6 started like that 108k and got worse turned out was the valve train (exhause valve stem seals and followers) turned otu to be friking expensive. i hope the throttle body clean works for you. check oil useage and check for any top end vibrations.

Sounds like the old throttle body clean. My car was until recently doing the same. Cleaned the throttle body ( without taking it off ), a bit awkward mind you. I managed it with some White spirit and cleaned the body and the butterfly until cloth was clean. Be careful with the butterfly 1) not to bend or scrape it 2) Do not let it snap back shut when releasing it after cleaning.

If you have VAG Com then the fault should appear as :
Fault : Throttle body fault in basic settings

One other thing, check the throttle cable at closed position, if you can move it downwards and the throttle mechanism closes more to shut position, move the circlip on the adjuster up a notch or two, to release tension until idle is stable.

Don't no why this happened, but cable was keeping throttle slightly open, screwing up the ECU resulting in poor idling.

When I did this the car was able to perform a throttle body adjustment without any problems whatsoever, idle was spot on afterwards.

    Cheers
