what sort of rev's on the engine ? when you have the problem.

If below 1500 would expect this in higher gears.

Is it worse going up hill ?

It seems to be when in 5th or 6th gear on m/way hitting 65/70mph starts to misfire and can feel a jump in engine? Havent noticed problems going uphill......... yet!

Yeah, not good on hills and misfiring / chugging at 2500 revs irrespective of what gear i'm in! Has FASH, last one done 3000 miles ago and has new timing / cam belt 3000 miles ago.

Got an '05 2.0 TDI which also does the same. Happens randomly usually in 2nd between 1500-2000rpm. Misses and chugs for a few seconds then clears its self. No faults showing on the diagnostics. Also full Audi history with 80k on the clock.

A few people with 2.0 TDI engines seem to cure similar problems by fitting a new fuel filter. Might try this myself when I get time.

Is the fuel filter part of the service programme?

Runs perfectly most of the time.

I think I have just solved the same sort of issue , Mine was ok under light throttle loading but developed a lunge under moderate , under full throttle conditions I had no power at all , changed my fuel filter after dropping the drain plug and losing the seal . When changing the filter I found it to be full of **** , its been fine since .

I also got two fault codes ,

1 injection start timing control deviation

2 some crap about boost being lower than expected

Both have gone and not recured

the tandem pump leaks oil into the fuel system causing this issue.Replace the tandem pump and the filter and clean the fuel tank out.Cut open the old filter and it will be full of oil its very common in the 2.0 tdi audi pd engines
