Audi a4 B6 - 3.0 V6

Hi all. Ive just purchased an Audi A4 3.0 V6 Petrol - Its a 2002 model with 94k miles

Im wondering when i should change the timing belt on the car - How much would the cost of this be -

and How soon should i complete this ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

do you have any history of when it was last changed ? i presume not by the sound of it, so going on that, i would change it before driving it anywhere.

I dont think its been changed before mate - Would u recommend doing ASAP then ?

i would recommend not even starting the car until its been done. its a lot of miles and many years past its best before date. not sure of the exact interval without looking it up, but 5 years and 60k is about right.

good, thats the plan. a snapped timing belt will leave you in a very bad mood indeed. its either new engine time, new heads or a top end rebuild. the bill for that will be huge. the bill for a new belt will be a lot less.

Would parts and that be handy got for the 3.0 V6 Petrol mate

Whats the gearboxs and that like on them

Whats things should i watch out for ?

its my first Audi so just being cautious

Anyone done a timing kit - How much would they cost and where would be best to source it

Hi, get the belt kit from TPS (Trade parts specialists) they usually only deal with the trade but you may get lucky, all genuine vw audi parts. not too sure on the layout of the v6 but you should be looking at replacing most parts associated with the belt i.e waterpump pulleys hydraulic tensioners etc....

I phoned up audi 2weeks ago for a timing belt and water pump change and it was £900 including vat.

Or the parts, timing kit and water pump, trade from tps are about £200 all in. You also need special tools to lock the cams as they dont have key ways.

Hey, Aye Audi here in Belfast are doing a deal at the minute. They will replace timing belt kit for £470 all in, Which is good in comparrison to your £900 Quote

But ive actually a friend who works for TPS who can get me the Timing kit and Waterpump for £187 all in - So all i need is a fitter - Happy days says me
