Mk 4 Gti 2L Stuttering finally to a hault :(

Hi everyone, great forum.

So I have a 2000 Golf Gti 2L high millage 132000k which has developed problems it has started stuttering then if you carry on driving it will finally grind to a hault arghh!

After looking at the forums I thought it may be the maf?? I disconected the sensor and the car drove for approx 5 miles with no probs then it sudenly did the same? I then put the sensor back on it drove for another half mile, then dead, does this mean its not the maf?

other things on my mind is my girlfriend has put to much oil in so the level is just over the full mark, could this be it?

I am in no way a mech, so any help[ would be amazing
