audi a6 3.2 quattro wont start with key. Help

Hi all,

Started my audi after a couple of weeks stood. Drove only a couple of miles, turned off the ignition, tried starting again turned the key and nothing. Anyway after lots of head scratching and battery charging decided to see if it would bump start, would you believe it it started. Run vcds and got the codes below,

Every time i clear the codes and turn the key again the codes come back. If i clear the codes with the engine the stay away till i stop the engine and try and start with the key.

I have replaced the battery just to be on the safe side because i have had some awful symptoms with a bad battery in the past.

So in a nutshell it runs like a dream but won't start on the key.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Access/Start Authorization Switch ...... Ignition Switch - open or short to ground.... These would seem to indicate, you have a problem with the ignition switch.

thanks Bruce, yeah you would think so. So far i have swapped out the ignition switch with another a6 mine works in his and vice versa. Turned ignition and got no voltage at the trigger wire at starter, jumped a wire from permanent live on starter to solenoid and the car cranked. I have checked the supply voltage, and two starter relays. Clutch pedal switch is operating. I am so lost now. I am thinking i will trace the trigger wire from the starter back? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks again

So, what I would do is pull up wiring diagrams and see what is in common to both switches - I would also be looking for the source (Vbat+) and tracing it to the start command that pulls in the solenoid. Logically there has to be something in common with both of these switches. Tracing from the solenoid back to the switches seems to me to be the wrong starting point... The switches have thrown errors. The control is not finding proper voltage on points of the switch - hence the faults. Well, that could be a bad switch or it could be there is not voltage to the switch and the problem is before the switch in the circuit.

I have gazed and gazed at the wiring diagrams, popping out to the car and trying to make sence of it all and I just can't. I don't like being beat but I think this timeim going to have to bow out and take it to a specialist. Just wanted to say thanks for trying to help it was appreciated. Cheers
