I have got all my parts needed to fit the mfsw with paddles and cruise control. I have one question before I start, I have seen a few people mention the need to run a wire to the ecu for cruise? Yet on others it hasn't been mentioned. Is this needed or only on certain models etc?

Never heard of it, normally all you have to do is programme the ECU that you have cruise fitted. This depends on the engine, but its easily done using the VCDS and change one of the Bit values in the ECU. Think all the communications between ECU and steering wheel module is done over the CAN connection, no dedicated Cruise wire. Perhaps they mean the clutch switch, which some cars don't have and needs to be retrofitted. The wire is there but the switch is not. You need to check

Wire is fitted to all B7's.

B6/7 uses Kline for diagnostics & some comms, Canbus is used for comms between modules only, no diagnostics afaik.

Literally all you need for cruise control is the stalk and VCDS. Nothing else.
