Strange one here folks. 2.0 TDI. Starts and runs fin from cold. Once regular operating temp is reached, something funny happens. Under acceleration, and immediately following gear change, there is a momentary lag, and then its fine. Really noticeable from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. Say your at 2,500 RPMs and you clutch to change into 2nd, once you come off thte clutch, at that time when you press on the gas, the lag occurs. It is visible on the revs counter: you can see a sharp drop of 200rpms approximately and then she will pick up. Only happens when warm, and is continuous. Any ideas ?

Have you had a fault scan with VCDS or Audi? When was the car last serviced?

I may be wrong, but as far as I know it's normal on the TDI. The turbo kicks in around 2,000rpm, so when changing gear, you lose the revs (as you should) which may put you under this threshold. I guess it may be just good old turbo lag? Best thing to do, boot it up to 3000rpm then change, you miss the crossover rpm then

EDIT: Oh, and I think the max power on the curve of the engine is around 3,500 - 4,000rpm ( depending on map, or standard map) so you won't be using all your grunt down in 2,500rpm anyway!

thanks for the input Owen, but it is an error. Definitely only occurs when engine reaches operating temp and even then, there will be periods where it's not there. You can feel the difference definitely, and there is an accompanying visual drop on revs counter also.

If you have VCDS try checking the clutch switch values change when depressed, just to check its not causing an issue.
