Hello all, I'm new to this forum and I'm needing help with this reoccurring problem...
last year my oil light came on and my car broke down I recovered it to my local garage where the mechanic had to fit a new oil pump and pipe! About 2 weeks later the light started flashing every so often so I took it back and he fitted a new sensor and flushed, the car then seemed fine for a while but every so often the light would flash so I just figured the car was burning a lot of oil and topped it up and the light would go away for another month or 2..
Any way a year on and the light started coming on again every 5-10 minutes so I returned it to the garage and my mechanic flushed the engine and fitted a new sensor which had little affect. So again I returned the car and this time he fitted a new oil pump and oil feed hose! I drove the car for about 20 miles and the light is still coming on but going straight out and it almost seems that if I apply more power the light goes out quicker... I have no idea now and neither does my mechanic can any one help me out?? Thanks

    Welcome to VWAF

What colour is the oil light, orange or red?

Is it flashing or illuminating and going out later?

    Is it using oil?

Was the oil pick up pipe/strainer checked?

Were all replacement parts new and genuine?

    Good catch!

I always assume, as the car has been to a professional, that this would have been done already.

As they always say, "never assume, as it makes an *** of 'u' & me!"

Hi there the oil light is red and it flashes bleeps and then goes out and then two minutes later it comes on again! Yes the car is using oil the mechanic said oil is definitely getting around. The pick up pipe was checked but thinking back I don't thing the part was genuine I will follow that up now

STOP. The "mechanic " should first of all carry out an oil pressure check using a gauge and not guess! If the system was full of gunge and not properly cleaned out, new oil can make this gunge come down and block the pick up or over enthusiastic sealant use can also cause this as I saw on one I had in below

It should be applied like this and the sump as clean as this one I did using paint stripper as usual.
