    Hi everyone!

This is my first post on the forum, and I've joined mainly for help on this question alone... But after having a quick browse through the forums, I'm sure I could learn a lot more than what I first signed up for, and make my B5 estate the car I want it to be

I currently have the standard 'Concert' head unit in place, but would like to replace it for a fancy 'Double din' 7" touchscreen jobby if possible. But with the space Being minimal from the Air conditioning controls up to the hazard light switch I'm wondering how this could be done?

I've seen tonnes of Backing plate & fascia conversion kits on the web tonight, but none specifically for my car (1999/B5 A4 Avant Tdi Estate) and knowing my luck ill order one of these 'Metra installation kits' that I have seen and it wouldn't fit.

I'd be extremely grateful if someone could point me towards anything that might be able to help in my search Even if its an old forum post that Ive missed asking the same question...

    Thanks for reading,

    Liam.

You need the centre console, radio cage, AC unit, ashtray and gear stick trim from a later model (00-02) - it's a big job but the parts are a direct fit.

Depending on your budget, you might be better off getting a unit with a screen that pops out/flips up.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

Dont throw away your old pre facelift surround....

Depending on what radio you go for will depend on what surround you will require. I purchased a late A6 RNS-E for my A4 Avant but the only thing missing was the correct surround as it was of a slightly different size... and I couldn't find one anywhere!!

Using a Silverline dremmel type tool, (only £20 from toolstation instead of £70 for a dremmel) I was able to grind down the old surround and ended up with two perfect strips to fill the holes the A6 unit didnt fit... I secured the surround with silicone sealant.

Unless you knew the difference, you would not notice the re worked surround!

If I had thrown the old one away, I would still be looking for a plastic filler!
