    Hello All,

I have recently got an 06 2.0 TFSI and have a few questions that I am hoping you will be able to help me with:

Firstly is the engine cam chain or Belt driven.

During acceleration the engine seems rather diesel sounding and when pressing the clutch the revs seem to hang slightly. Is this normal?

When placing in first gear the car seems to move slightly like judder/stiff going in while its cold and doesn't seem to like going into reverse while its cold either. The cruise control doesn't work either any common issues there.

any known A/C common faults think mine needs re-gassing

    Thanks for your help all
The car is under warranty but want to be educated so they cant fob me off so to speak.

    Hi,

Dont know the answer to your first or last questions (cam belt and a/c). However, in regards to the middle 2 it could be a faulty clutch switch which is common enough. On my 2.0tdi when the switch failed the car had very similar symtoms to yours. Its a quick fix. A new switch is maybe 20 quid or so and takes all of 10mins to fix. Simply remove panel beneath steering wheel, unplug old switch and install the new one. On VCDS you can check the operation of the switch before buying one to see if its the problem first though. Theres a thread on here somewhere that should point you in the direction of someone that has the software, though obviously if your under warrenty take it straight back to get sorted.

Other than that hope you get the other answers your looking for!

    Hi,

It's belt not chain, check to see if it's been done, should be every 5 years I believe, got to have mine done again soon, costs around 400 quid with water pump etc. My gearbox can be a bit notchy at times and yes, reverse can be a pain when the car is cold but I don't think it's anything to worry about. I don't get any juddering though. Getting first when pulling up to a junction can be the same when cold but I'm now used to it.

Can't help with cruise I'm afraid.

    Mike.

The engine has both a Belt and chain to drive the camshafts. The crankshaft drives the Exhaust Cam Via a belt at the front of the engine, and the Exhaust Cam then drives the Inlet Camshaft via a chain at the rear of the engine. The tensioner for the chain has been known to fail. I had mine changed along with the chain and it sounds much quieter and smoother. more like what a petrol should sound like.

checked my history it says toothed belt replaced at 72k im now on 92k no mention of a water pump though. How many miles can it do before I should replace it again.

Sounds good how much was that to replace and at what mileage would you recommend I replace it?
    Thanks for your help.

Think it was £280 all in, No point in putting a mileage on the change. If it sounds bad, Change it.
