What are peoples opinions on buying an 100K+ mile Touran? I am looking for a people carrier / family battle bus and fancy TDI Touran and have seen a number of very attractively priced Touran's with high mileages but relatively new (2003 - 2004). I have a 1994 E34 BMW 520i Touring with 105k miles which still feels like new (But isn't big enough).
How long will the TDi engine last?
What else could be on the verge of expiring?
Are they going to last the distance?

    Any opinions would be appreciated...

Each car is different , dependant om , miles , service history , engine size

Me personally , if the car has FSH , and is a decent price , i would not have a problem having a car over 100k miles , especially a german tdi

    Hi,

I purchased a Bora TDi 150 Sport in April this year. It had 110.000 miles on the clock. It had a full and correct VW dealer service history (easy to verify with vw). Since then I have put another 10k on the clock.

To date the only slight mishap I've experienced was a turbo pipe blowing off. This was replaced by VW for £70 inc parts & labour...not too bad! I have put 2 new tyres on the rear.

Apart from that I am DELIGHTED with my purchase. Make sure you check any prospective car for signs of abuse however, with a Touran I don't think you'll be picking up a boy racer leftover.

Put your faith in VW TDi's even with high mileage!

    Happy motoring

ps Due to the high mileage I saved £3k on the book price....bonus

I recently sold my VW Touran 2.0TDI sport, I had it from new (March 2004) and put 100K on it in that time. It went 18K between services (variable service and using the proper VW longlife oil) and had the timming belt done on time at 80K. all service was done by VW. The car was cracking and never let me down and gave average 50mpg (that was driving it swiftly too) The only blemish on its record was just before it was sold the Turbo went (no loss of power or failure) but it did wistle at mid revs. In the end though the VW dealer got onto VW who agreed a car that age and with only 100K shouldn't have a failed turbo, so they paid for most of the parts and labour, so it didn't cost me much.

Over the three and half years it was a cheap car to run is built like a tank and was great for the kids too. If you can go for a decent spec as the lower spec models are a bit basic, mine was a sport and has a good spec and looks good too.

I know the wistle you mean, and it sounds good, however this whistle sound bad (the uncool bad!!) and soon after got a bit mechanical, which was the impellor touching the wall of the turbo housing. luckily caught it before it did any damage. Before VW agreed to pay for most of the parts and labour, they were going to charge nearly a £1000 for the turbo, the same turbo (but not in a VW box, and from a motor factors) was nearer £500 and both are making Money, and reckon VW buy them in cheaper than the motor factor too (and yes they were both Garrat turbo's!)
