    Hello everyone!

It seems that my beloved '007 is having some problems with the sensors.
It all started when I decided to change the interior bulbs with led's (from ebay ).
Everything went well for a few weeks, but after some of them stopped working and the parking sensors were not doing their job anymore.

When putting the car in reverse, it makes 5-6 seconds continuous beep from the rear and after it stops, but with no guidance. If I try to put it gear and back in reverse, it does not do the 5 seconds beep, nor the short one and still does not work.

It got to a point where 90% of the time the sensors were not working and I was turning the engine on/off just to get the sensors to work (for those tight spaces).
After a chat with a mechanic, he said that a lad had put led's in his E-classe and toasted the ECU (aprox 800 quid job) so I decided to put the old bulbs back.
Did that last week, but the problem still exists.

Anyone encountered such a problem before?
Or do you have any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Ben

Ideally you need a fault scan, check all fuses in the meantime.

the long beep is to tell you the parking sensors are deactivating due to a faulty sensor.... there will be a fault code stored which will tell you which sensor/s is at fault.

Did a scan on my Sharan ca 3 weeks ago with the same problem. Error on rear right sensor. Ordered new one on Ebay. 3 weeks delivery time but cheaper than VAG (in Norway).

Some times it worked in the waiting time.

Replaced this evening in 7 minutes.

Do a scan and I believe the parking ECU will tell you witch sensor that is defect.

    Hey LA9SHA,

Do you have a guide on changing them? I am not exactly qualified at doing such work... but I am always looking for some diy.

I have emailed Paul Barls, he helped me before with a scan and I am waiting for his response.
How much was the sensor? Do you have a link?

    Thank you for your reply!

It was very easy to do.
My car is a 2007 model Sharan. Rear sensors are behind the bumper. They can been reached without any disassembling of anything else. Only two small plastic "clips" (sorry for terrible English) that I had to press a little out from the sensor (be careful so they don't break) with one hand and the other on the outside and pressed the sensor in. After that disconnect it (I had to go inside and get a screwdriver to bend out the look clip on the connector - included in the 7 minutes).

    A small tip:
Take a smart phone or camera and take some photos and study them so you see the mounting clips before you start.

This was tip for my Sharan and my type of sensor. Same on my other Sharan also (2008 model).

    I don't know what type on 2012->

Maybe I can look up your car in database (also bought on Ebay) if I got correct type, but I believe I don't have time before the end of the week.

If you do a search you'll find part numbers and removal.

Generally the bumper has to be removed to change them but there is a thread which shows how to remove the sensor without taking the bumper off.

VW sensors particularly newer ones will have smaller sensors which isn't for the A6.
