Hello all. I took the joy of picking up a 56 plate A6 2.7TDI Quattro this week. As I do a fair amount of miles I wanted to update the DVD NAV to latest database, and subsequently the MMI to 5570.

I obtained genuine Audi UK discs for both, along with instructions on how to do the update.

Upon starting the update, all was normal until it started to download. TUN/TUN/App was the first.

It would complete about 13% then stop and say "Unlock Block 1, please wait" then it would start over, at 0% and go up to about 15%, then "Unlock Block 2, please wait" etc etc. Occasinally saying "waiting for device".

Not knowing if this was normal or not, I waited around 1.5 hours, it had reach block 107 I think, but still not really any progress percentage wise.

After a bit of research on the net I realised this wasn't normal and cancelled the download.

The MMI rebooted but of course "NOT OK" was prevalent.

I now don't have any radio, CD, or anything MMI audible related. The NAV works fine as I hadn't got to update it yet, but no voice commands.

I've tried it at least another 3 times with the same result.

I never get any error messages. After cancelling the download, the only error message present is that "the user terminated the download".

Anybody have any idea as to why my car isn't taking the update?

Audi want £117 to hook it up to a diagnostic machine, and I've heard horror stories of MMI unit failures costing upwards of £1600. :0(

Kinda feels like I'm oy driving half a car right now!

Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

Oh, well thanks for the 'technical' advice and revelling in my misfortune. Constructive comments would be welcome, thanks.

You were given constructive advice by one of the people who has probably forgotten more than we'll ever know.

Have you done as he suggested? What was the outcome?

I tried the update originally about 4 times with the same outcome. I'm not a techy, I can cope with putting a CD in a CD changer, but I don't tinker with cars, so my knowledge is zero. What and how do I do an 'optical test'? I have no diagnostic equipment.

You need VCDS or Audi to run it. If you look at the Map link in my forum signature there might be someone near you who could help.

So you've tried a few times and got the same result.

On to the optical test, which as Chris says, needs VCDS (a diagnostic tool made by Ross Tech - Ross-Tech Store: VCDS) or a professional.

As Chris also says, there's a map of users with VCDS - we don't know where you are because you've not completed the location section of your profile - but if you can see someone close to you, let us know and we'll point them to this thread. Most users will do this for beer money, some do it for nothing.

If no one is close then you'll have to take it to an indy or Audi for the full tests but these will be chargeable

Thanks guys. From your link Chris, I've found an independent place near me that can do the diagnostics. I'll give them a call Monday and see what happens. I'll post back here the results for your interest.

Whilst I'm waiting for tomorrow for the diagnostic, I wondered if it was a corrupted disc, so I copied the files across on to another disc, but with the same result.

I took a few photos from during the update process, and also afterwards, when I'd cancelled the update and expanded the 'NOT OK' list to see what it said about it. Initially TUN was cancelled, it did the same with the DSP so I cancelled that too. I didn't let it get as far as the MMI.

    Update starts normally:

    Normal.jpg

Then the CD changer makes a noise around 17% each time and the message says:

    Unlock.jpg

Another CD changer noise and it starts over:

    Back to reload.jpg

It carries on like this until cancelled.

Once I cancelled all the updates, I rebooted the MMI and looked at the 'NOT OK' list:

    MII list NOT OK.jpg

Going into the MMI 'NOT OK' list it says this:

    MMI Message.jpg

    Going into the TUN list:

    Then the DSP says this:

    Anybody seen this before?
