Am I being a bit thick?

    I have a 3 year old A3 Quattro.

I have read the manual and it implies (if I read it right) that once the hatch is unlocked then the button on the door should open it. And one way to unlock the hatch is to use the hatch button on the key.

What I find is that the only way to unlock the hatch is the button on the key (if you see the subtle difference). And it locks again when you shut it.

Which means that the only way to get the hatch open is a two stage one; to press the button on the key then to use the button on the hatch. Every time.

Does the boot lock not release when other doors are unlocked. (should then open by boot button)
Has your model got the key / barrel lock and is it in the open position.
My A3 is older so it is probably different.

That's what I would have expected, but no.

    On the hatch? No.

So to open the boot there are 2 ways:

    1. Hold down the boot button on the remote. This will only unlock the tailgate and the tailgate will partially open for you so that you only need to lift it up. Upon closing the tailgate the car will lock the tailgate and activate the alarm. Therefore, be careful that you do not leave your keys in the boot!
    2. In the default factory configuration, you press the unlock doors button on the remote twice in quick succession. This will unlock all the doors of the car, including the tailgate. You can then open the tailgate with the button.

I hope this helps to clear things up.

Yes, I would have expected it to work like that too. But it doesn't, hence my question. Mine works:

3: Press the middle button on the keyfob. Then press the button on the hatch. The hatch then opens.

Nothing else that I have found works. And it seems pretty pointless that it works as it does.

    I understand now.
So, my listing is how it will work when it leaves the factory (my 2005 and 2009 A3 work this way) and you have therefore interpreted the manual correctly. As yours works differently, then I can only assume that there is either a fault? or it has been altered in the coding. I'm afraid that I don't know what options you have when you modify the coding to confirm this though. Have you tried with another key fob?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

This is how mine works too, I suggest getting a fault scan done.

Maybe worth changing the battery in the fob too, think it's a cr2032.
