I am the recent owner of the above car and i am going to tackle the service myself , just have a few questions for those in the know.

How many litres of oil does the engine hold?

Is this engine ok with vacuuming the oil out instead of draining?

Changing the fuel filter i am reading that the car needs to be hooked up to VCDS after changing it?
or is it ok to do without?

Any links to How To's would be appreciated as i cant see many around.

I have the cabin filter and the air filter how to's from here allready.

    Cheers.

My 3.0 takes just over 7 am sure another owner will be along to answer the quantity.

I have used both methods of extraction, vacuuming out gets marginally less out by about a litre in my cas, however not aware of the sump design for the 2.

My fuel filter was changed without using VCDS, filtered out fuel in old one (via cleans side) through a paper coffee filter ad did see some crud, then top up new one with the old diesel, adding a couple of ounces. Started first time.

    Quick replies . Thanks.
I'll post the engine code later, wife has the car now.
Id prefer to drain the oil than vacuum.
But Going by an a4 2.0PD i tried do at home the covers underneath these are a nightmare and i am not fan of going under the car
Saab i had before this i could undo the Sump nut without going underneath the car.

    Thanks.

Install and easy access panel in the underbody protection to make oil changes easier.

The 2.0l takes 4.5 litres of oil, use the vacuum pump to drain the oil cooler, the drain the rest via the sump plug.

If you have a pneumatic (i.e. air line supplied pump) then you could vacuum the sump. I have a manual pump and have never got near the same amount of oil out as if draining the sump from the plug.

The filter is a dodle just get the right sized socket for it 26mm i think and when refitting torque it up to 25 Nm only. Then always check for oil leaks as the O ring can snap on refitting.

You can reset the oil via the MMI but will need VCDS to reset the service reminder.

suck the oil out of the dipstick tube and the oil cooler, then the dipstick tube again. do it with a hot engine so the oil is runnier. then go below and remove the sump plug. if anything comes out you know the sucker tool left some behind. if none comes out then you know the sucker works better than the sump plug.

What is the point to using the pump if you are going undo the sump plug?

On the 2.0 L (facelift A6) which i have, i have never got more than 2.5 litres using the pump (hot engine etc) I was told that the sump had baffles in it (weather this true i don't know)
until the need to remove it comes about.
