My service indicator says time for service.

Oil service is due in 11,600 miles or 176 days.
    Inspection due.

I had my car serviced 3/10/12, 11,700 miles with long life oil at main Audi dealer, this service included inspection and rest of service indicators etc.

It's just coming up to 3 years old, and now has 18.500 miles. I would agree it needs air filter/fuel filter - am I just out of sync as I did long life oil service?

You have two intervals (im guessing you have a facelift) oil and inspection.

Oil is oil and oil filter, inspection is all other filters such as air, fuel whatevers due.

think there may be another explanation for the Inspection due warning. How close are you to 3yrs old? First brake fluid change is due at 3 years and will bring Inspection warning on

    out of sync somehow....

On variable service regime you should have a service every 19k(max) or 2yrs. Only the oil change is variable, service work should be 2yrs 4yrs etc.

Why it's out I guess depends what was done and why it had a service 7 months ago?

It never had a service 7 months ago - 19 months ago.
It had Oil and Inspection service at Audi when it was 18 months old at 11,000 miles. Only filter changed was oil, so I know air/fuel must be due. I will give them a call.

ah yes i misread it, serviced in 2012 not 2013. still doesn't explain the time between that inspection and now. Filters are due at 4yr/38k, maybe not air filter though, check in your service book.

This looks like what it is - in the service book this is the only thing showing due - says after 3 years then every 2 years thereafter. This could certainly wait 175 days until my oil change in my opinion, if not longer. Not worth a visit to garage for this alone. Still have to live with service due indicator.

I have ordered a VAG code reader from Ebay - not sure if this will turn off service due - I doubt it.

Thought it would be a nifty tool to have handy, daughter has an A4 so handy for that too.

You should check with the seller that this works with latest cars. The C6 A6 requires one that works with CAN+HEX and many of the cheaper tools on the market do not support this even though it plugs into the socket

I have already found out that I probably wasted my cash. Plugged it in on Saturday and it can read/erase codes but not much other functionality. I already have an OBD2 code reader I bought several years ago for my SAAB which cost about £100 if I recall.

I also have a friend with VCDS which is probably all I will ever need anyway. To be fair to the seller the advert says any doubt ask - which I did not do.
