I have just had a very nice man give me a nice new set of disks and pads all round on my 3.0l Le Mans for £400. Audi Main dealer were quoting £890

Unfortunately about 600 miles later I had heard a funny noise a bit like a dentist drill in second gear and an odd grate from the rear nearside wheel on a slow full lock turn. So I stuck it up on the car jack and noticed a little oil on the rear suspension and a bit more, further along. Took it back to very nice man and he popped it up only to find the transmission casing cracked. There was no damage underneath so we can only assume at the moment that a bearing has gone inside and that has cracked the casing.

Anyone else had this issue and ideas of the financial damage?

Whats your gearbox code? Will be on the data sticker in the spare wheel well.

Googling for "cracked gearbox casing" people are suggesting welding it but if theres a problem within the gearbox then you're looking a replacement.

I will get the code tomorrow as I left the car at the garage didn't want to do any more ware to any of the bits I could save. The 'very nice man' did say he thinks something is cattle trucked on the inside as there was no damage to the underside of the car such as a stone strike, and obviously with the dodgy sounds in 2nd gear the teeth will be damaged as well. I am expecting a whole new box or possibly a pre-loved one, but mine is a manual so I don't think they were that common.

After a slight delay I have the transmission code :ASB. I have also found someone breaking an A4 3.0 Diesel with the same engine code, will it be the same gear box or will have to keep looking?

    Cheers

Does that mean that they have the same gear box? I have also added the pic of the sticker so not sure what would be the gear box code.

    Cheers

JMG is your gearbox code, you need another gearbox matching this code.
