Right ok folks, thanks for all your help so far the car (A6 S Line, Daytona grey, heated front seats, lighting pack) I've found at an Audi dealer is £27,247.96 on Drive the Deal, a saving of £8,292.04. Is there any calculation I can do on that to work out what kind of lease price I *might* be able to get at a brokers for that? I'm guessing around £299+VAT with the paint and options? I'm going to phone some brokers and ask them if they can do this for me. I take it the dealers themselves wouldn't want to tell me which brokers they work with?

    Sounds about right.
Is this personal or can you do it via a business? I found that some of the best rates were business-only. Obviously you'd want to reimburse the business rather than doing it as a company car. But I suspect you could get it somewhat cheaper if you could.

I'm a self-employeed sole trader, VAT registered. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone I speak to regard whether or not I can get a business lease, so I've no idea!

You might try contacting Simon Venus of National Car Solutions on 0191 356 1001 or 07709 344 391. He seemed to know his stuff.

My experience of leasing, admittedly a few years ago, was that metallic paint either reduced the price or the lease cost included it and switching to plain paint increased the cost due to better residuals on metallic

I've seen it happen both ways. I think a lot of the more 'keen' deals are based around razor thin profit margins and excluding it allows then to have an attractive price to advertise, knowing they can upsell you a few quid a month for a metallic.

If they are honest though, it shouldn't be more than £2-3 per month difference due to the elevated residual value.

I've been quoted £18/month for metallic. I think you're right about it being the equivalent of the extended warranty...

My a6 s line is on personal lease - dealers couldn't get close to the monthly payments - from my experience as this is my 3rd leased car any options Inc metallic paint you pay the cost of the option divided by the months you have the car - ie £650 for metallic divided by 23 for a 2 year lease. If there is a benefit to the residual value your chosen option gives the lease companies don't factor it into the monthly payment.
That said the a6 is so well spec'd even in base trim there are not many 'essential' options.
