    Hi folks,
I'm looking to lease a brand new A6 saloon, but I need the car asap for a mammoth April business trip, and ordering to spec looks to have about a 16 week wait. So, I'm trying to find out what my chances are of finding one the suits in stock somewhere. I'm after a TDI S Line, 2014, automatic with metallic paint, no other additional extras. Ultra would be nice, but I guess they'll be harder to find. Can anyone point me in the direction of a company / companies who either would have such stock or are able to source cars to specification (or near enough) for leasing?
    Thanks!

Ultimately an Audi dealer can tell you what is available from across all dealers in the UK. If you have a preferred leasing company then they should be able to get sight of that list and tell you what they can offer you immediately. If you don't have a preferred leasing company then you are probably best going to a dealer and asking what they can offer you ex-Stock and then either lease through Audi themselves or go to a leasing company and tell them the car you want and get them to get it for you. Challenge will be whether the leasing company is able to get the ex-Stock car with the discount they want or from one of the dealers they deal with

Thank you John, very useful. I'm new to leasing so treading carefully! I assumed that I'd probably have to order new or pick from what little stock lease companies seem to have, but it's good to hear that they should be able to get a car to spec from a dealer. Can I ask what do you mean by "ex-stock"?

No problem. It will depend on the leasing company as to what you can do, but ultimatum the car will have to come from a dealer (even if it is one owned by the leasing company). Ex- stock means from stock that is already held by the dealer or that they can get from another dealer, usually by doing a swap.

Just want to check also that you really mean lease (usually you pay the equivalent of a number of months up front followed by a number of months following which you return the car) rather than pcp (you pay a deposit followed by a number of payments and at the end you can return the car, buy it by paying the balance owing or use the difference between the trade in offed and the balance owed as deposit on a new car)

Yes I would definitely not look to buy the car at the end of the contract, so leasing looks the best way for me as I understand the monthly payments are a bit cheaper. I'm self-employed and VAT registered so I think this means I should be able to get a business contract, which again looks to make things cheaper.

I've found an A6 saloon 2.0 Tdi Black Edition 177ps in stock at a leasing company for £280+VAT per month on a 24 month contract, which looks a stonking deal to me?! Nnegatives are it's a choice of solid white or black and I believe they are manual (waiting to hear back), which is a shame. But I wonder if I could use that to haggle with other leasing companies / Audi dealers?

I'd talk to your accountant first before doing anything!!!

If you get a business lease, your accountant will probably tell you you need to pay BIK on the car as you will be using it privately, just as any Company Car user would. Add the tax burden of this to the low leasing rate and you'll probably find a PCP is your best choice. Also, for some reason, excess mileage charges are higher on leases that i've seen....

Another thing to watch out for is check if you are better off getting a 10,000 mile deal even if you are doing more than this. It often works out cheaper to pay the excess mileage than pay for the mileage on a monthly basis. Easy enough to check that though....get the figures for both and see. This applies to both leasing and PCP.

If the car will be used solely for business you can claim all VAT and you should not pay any Tax for is out of your own pocket (like a taxi driver and white van man) but has to be parked at night at your office/company. If the car will be used also for private stuff, then you will have to not only pay tax, but you can also not claim any VAT on the lease through your business. If the latter, you can claim full VAT for service costs however.

Hmmm ok thanks silo, I didn't even consider tax implications!! That does change things :/ NewAudi, with regards to VAT, I was under the impression I could reclaim 50% if I use it for personal as well? See section 4 on VAT here. So could I in theory go for a PCP, and reclaim 50% of the VAT? Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

It looks like you are right. Perhaps the rules have changed since my last UK company car (2008)?! Then don't forget the question about fuel..... there's some minimum tax limit that you will have to pay if the company pays all fuel. The system really doesn't like people to have a company car

Here in Germany, we can still claim full VAT on car (purchased or leased), Fuel and all maintenance. But for how long..?

Can't do a PCP on business unfortunately as it is for personal use. If you try to claim the VAT back, then it's a Company car, therefore liable to Benefit in Kind, so no win here.

What you should do is buy the car yourself and pay yourself 45p/mile up to 10,000 miles and 25p/mile thereafter from your company.

As an example, a friend of mine leased an A3 2.0TDI Sport Quattro back in 2008 through his company. When all lease and taxation costs were taken into account, he was paying nearly £700 per month (excluding fuel & servicing). He now drives a C63 AMG for less money as he has gone with a PCP.

Unfortunately all the loopholes have been closed around this over the last decade.....
