    Hi guys and gals

i have a 2010 golf gt tdi that keeps going into limp mode sometimes can go for a week with a fault but other days it could be 2 3 times a day, took it into vw dealer hooked upto machine and was told the egr cooler was failing not the news I wanted to hear, now I'm good with the spanners but I'm thinking it's going to have to be re coded etc, quoted £800 for repair with 5 hours labour !!!, I'm unsure what to do is it a easy fix or is vw trying to rob me

any input would be very much appreciated

Take it to VW garage and VW should pay for the part. If it's the garage you bought it from or where you have some history then they should chip in for the labour as well. Mine was done for £525 labour but nothing for the part which VW paid for as it's a known issue.

2009 Mk6 140bhp 2 litre Golf SE EGR Cooler problem

My car has less than 35000 miles on the clock and has been diagnosed with this problem after its MOT and service 2 weeks ago. I have been told it has to be repaired so is booked in for the job. I have been quoted £800 to £900, although I have been told VW may contribute £100 as I am a loyal VW owner (my 4th). The car was bought 3 months old from a VW dealer and has been looked after by them. It seems a very excessive repair bill for what is looking like a recall problem and as in previous threads VW seem well aware of this but unwilling to assist. "If only everything in life was as reliable as a VW"! I am bginning to wonder.

no coding and trust me its not a very easy job to do labour is a round 6 hours for a competent technician so a week for a curbside warrior

Try to get them to give you some 'good will' as this is a known failure on Golfs. If not, get them to contact VW and state that you want a replacement as they know the EGR is a bad design.
State that they must know about the failures as your replacement will be a modified EGR with a two year guarantee for parts and labour. If this is not acknowledging their liability for a design fault
then nothing is. I never got any help as no one informed me at the dealers that this was a known issue. Rattle their bloody cage, mutter about seeking legal advice. Anything is worth a try to
unload the heavy cost of the replacement, and good luck to you
