hi, i have just bought my first quattro, a 2000 x reg allroad a6 2.5 (ake)6 speed manual estate, fairly good allround i think, but....
flashing in the centre of the dash is a yellow oil can with the message oil sensor faulty, and it does sound like the hydralic tappits are needing replaced.
I am competent with engines and would appreciate advice on whether
A, this sensor thing is "do not drive it serious" ? it is upto the top mark with oil on the dip stick.
B am i as well to bite the bullet and do a cam bely with the tappits, changed 2010 at 80k now at 127k
    thanks Andy

plug it into diag computer first to find out why this light is on. if tappets are noisy then the cams could also be worn and then it becomes a bigger job.

    Hi,
the yellow light probably means the sensor underneath the sump is dead, if you replace it you need an oem ( with a aftermarket the oil temp gauge will not work)
About the pushers, your engine have solid cams wich are known to go bad, meaning it's no use to order new pushers , you'll have to look under the rocker covers first...
Regarding the yellow light you can drive it as you please, about the "tappits" however you need to check the camshafts asap.

If you had researched this site first before buying the car you would've known all about the problems with AKEs and cam wear....

I'm suspecting members are reluctant to comment because its been covered over and over :-)

Welcome to VWAF - I see you joined a few years ago but haven't posted until now.

Sincere apologies you weren't assisted within 24 hours, but perhaps those who had viewed your thread weren't able to offer anything and rather than give you false info, opted to pass on by.

It looks as though you're getting some assistance now, so fingers crossed you'll be sorted soon.

    A brief search for "AKE" and "oil sensor" gives the following thread;

a6 oil sensor issue and airbag issue.

Searching for "oil sensor" in the A6 section returns even more threads. Plenty of reading for you if you get a spare moment.

First thing to do before anything else is, as Zollaf says, get the car scanned for faults.

Your location says Scotland but Scotland is a vast land, where, roughly, are you, perhaps there's someone nearby who can scan for you.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.
