My Bora dash display that gives MPG info etc fades as I drive

When I leave the house on a morning its fine, but when I'm about 20 mins into my journey it fades from the left hand side across, and when I get to work I can hardly see the display at all!!!

Any ideas, is it a common fault?? And can it be fixed???
Washing a car, is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You've got to caress the bodywork. Breathe softly and gently. And give every inch of it your loving attention. And make sure you've got a nice wet sponge.

Was thinking it would need replacing, can I just replace the info display or does the whole set of instruments need replacing??

hole dash insert and it would require the keys coding and the immobiliser matching to the engine control unit via main dealer

Think I'll live with it then, that sounds costly.
