Remote fob help !! Please!!

Got myself a fob not the key for my 96/97 SE passat from ebay, right part number according to VW - yet when I follow the key in the ignition and door setup nothing happens.
Does fob have to be introduced to car by computer or am I missing something, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I also got a key & remote fob from EBAY, I had the blade cut to match (it will turn over the car & open the doors). I programmed the remote locking & unlocking no problem, the problem is that the immobiliser has to be programmed to the key. I also made sure the part number matched the original key I alreadt had. I took my key to local VW dealer & they said the key could not be programmed to the immobiliser, although I think they were lying. If i have any luck I will let you know, DITTO.

Although its an SE it didn't come with a remote, so i tracked down the remote that would have been for my age car and bought that. It may be I'm barking up the wrong tree but and the car doesn't have it. I've tried the key in the door, key in the ignition thing a few times now but with no success.

That is why I was wondering if I had to introduce it to the car. But if you managed to programme your own remote then I guess it must be my car.

I have successfully programed a key from ebay to my car, first get the right key which you have then you need the SKC code to login to the immobiliser and match the keys.

check the options list in the boot online and it will tell you if remote locking is fitted

there is a link on the forum somewhere where you can put the option codes in for your car. But i Can't find it

All VW/Audi cars have a sticker in the boot listing engine code and options picked at time of purchase. Usually in the spare wheel well

Is this an exhaustive list of what my car should have. I checked the codes with the checker and it lists stuff my car has however it doesn't list anything at all to do with the electrics pack or the central locking.

Looks like I'll be putting the fob back on ebay - Ho Hum
