Recently had oil consumption test on my 2.0 tfsi sline executive 2009 confirmed report oil - 2.291 litres per 1000km . This massive consumtion happened very fast over the last 3 months unbelievabley no loss of power or smokey exhaust aithough exhaust tips very black . Any way new engine fitted by Audi . Only thing that worries me is when i asked did i have to return after 500 miles or so for oil change i was informed it is the policy not to change oil now untill next service which is a longlife one which is due on 03/16 . Has anyone with new engine been given same advice on this forum ? many thanks in advance.....

Hi, You will find that this is quite a recurring theme on here. Officially Audi tend to put you onto one of two service plans. Either the "long life" which is an oil change every 20,000 miles or 2 years (whichever comes first) or you can opt for the annual 10,000 mile/1 year service. A lot of cars seem to be put straight onto the 2 year service by Audi (mine included), and this is possibly to keep the high mileage drivers and least companies happy. A lot of members on here, including myself, opt for the yearly oil change simply because its always been good practice, arguably better for your engine and oil degrades over time and use.

Also for what its worth, I tend to burn about 1/4 of a litre of oil every 2000-3000 miles or so (which is more pronounced if these are all motorway miles) on my 3.0TDi.

Strictly speaking you don't have to spend an absolute fortune on oil changes. Even doing it yearly, there are things you can take advantage of. For example, if you really want to do it at main dealer then take advantage of the fixed price servicing (I believe its about £169 for oil + filter now up to 2.0 litre engines?). If you aren't bothered about main dealer, then you can get it done anywhere else (plenty of good independents out there). The brand of oil does not matter as long as it meets the VW 50700 spec (and is the correct viscosity e.g. 5w30 - check your manual). If you are mechanically minded you can buy it yourself over the counter in somewhere like halfords and save even more...
