    Hi Guys,

I've seen other posts here about the same problem, but wanted to start a new thread to try and get to the bottom of my gf's golf.

We got the car second hand, and the guy fitted our old stereo for us. (which will only turn on once in a blue moon.- the stereo used to work fine in my old car)

The electrics are intermittent at best and has several problems. (electric windows, central locking etc.)

I can move the roof manually, as I turned the t key in the boot manually.

I checked the hydraulic levels in the thing in the boot, and its good.

I checked the grey pin under the back seat and theres no voltage.

there was another red cable there, which had 24v on it.

    thanks in advance

    A few things here,

Stereo - Stereo ignition power lead could be reversed with the perm 12V line. Every time i've fitted a stereo i've had to swap these yellow/red lines over.

Electric windows - could well be the wires in between the door pillars they break after time and need rejoining. These are in between the rubber door gaiters. Motors worn/runners stuck. easy to test which, no response from button ( & no interior light dim) when pressing switch means a break in the circuit. A weak/stuck motor will dim the lights. Bang the motor a few times while pushing the button will confirm if sticky runner or motor.

Central locking - wires between door pillars going to vacuum pump/switch mechanism (particularly door lock wires). Broken vacuum pump. If aftermarket remote central lock unit fitted, you will need to check the connections to this as if they are broken this will stop the doors from opening/closing on central lock.

It could be worth checking the fuses for these circuits as so many of them are down.

I would highly recommend checking between door gaiters for snapped cables and broken insulation. Tweezers, electrical tape and crimps are your friend here. (The tweezers are for wrapping the tape)
