Horrible noise on full lock while manoeuvring

So today my car has developed yet another noise. While manoeuvring at low speed with the steering wheel turned at full lock or close to it, say when pulli g in or out of a parking space, I get a bad grinding/rumbling noise, but just when I'm not pressing the accelerator, when I do use a little accelerator, the noise disappears.

Could this be a lack of power steering fluid, or is this likely to be something else? Hopefully a common thing that's an easy fix lol.

My old s4 used to do exactly that same thing when the power steering fluid was low.
Check the level, even if its not at the minimum mark but down a bit top it up and hopefully be sorted

or the alternator pulley is seized up. does the tensioner jump about much

I'll check the pas fluid this morning & hopefully find it to be below minimum.

Not sure how to check if the tensioner jumps about, how do I check? Then I can report back once I know.

Also check it's the correct PAS fluid, on my car it has to be green hydraulic fluid and some numpty had previously put in standard red fluid making a brown mess which will affect seals.

blimey, first its the polar bears and now its the seals that face extinction, from pas fluid of all things. ???

I've checked the pas fluid level as best I can, the design of the dipstick thing under the lid doesn't make it easy to accurately measure it, but it seems to be a little over maximum. The colour is reddish brown.

I'll try to link a voice recorder file so you can hear the noise. Sounds like a tractor & it does it on full lock both left and right.

When did you last change the PAS fluid ?
It should be clear greenish colour.

The car had it's service not all that long ago, but I'd need to check if pas fluid change was done as part of the service.

I'd say that it was unlikely that the PAS fluid has ever been changed as part of a service, unless requested........The dealers don't even change air filters for at least 40k!!

I'd certainly check Paul, but my moneys on NO
